Long time Today Entertainment correspondent Sam Rubin has died at the age of 64.
Rubin died at his home in Los Angeles on Friday (local time) of a heart attack.
He hosted his regular KTLA Hollywood news segment from 7am to 9am this morning.
The reporter worked for LA TV station KTLA as their entertainment reporter and also worked with Today and Today Extra.
The television station confirmed Rubins’ death in a statement this morning.
“KTLA 5 is deeply saddened to report the passing of Sam Rubin,” the station said.
“Sam was a giant in the local news industry and in the entertainment world and a fixture on morning television in Los Angeles for decades.
“His laughter, charm and caring personality touched all who knew him. Sam was a loving husband and father: the roles he valued most.
“Our thoughts are with Sam’s family at this difficult time.”
Today entertainment reporter and close friend of Rubin’s Richard Wilkins said his colleague will be missed.
“The world of entertainment has truly lost one of its best colleagues and dear friends today,” Wilkins told the Weekend today.
“For the past 20 years, he has been a member of our family, mainly through Today show and Today Extra…but whenever the big stories broke, Sam was our go-to guy.
“And these beautiful people that he works with, they’re going to be absolutely gutted today, obviously he brought this tremendous knowledge of the entertainment industry, but he also brought this tremendous warmth.”
Rubin worked at KTLA from 1991 until the time of his death.
He was the recipient of the Golden Microphone Award from the Southern California Association of Broadcasters in recognition of his lifetime achievement in the media.
He was also the recipient of the Best Entertainment Reporter Award from the Los Angeles Press Club.
