A police officer accused of killing two men, including his former lover, will have to wait to enter his pleas as prosecutors seek more time to finalize their case against him.
Beaumont Lamarre-Condon has been charged with the murders of Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies, 29, and television presenter Jessie Baird, 26.
The then 28-year-old senior constable allegedly shot the men with his NSW police service weapon at Baird’s Paddington home in the city center on February 19 while he was off duty.
Police say the attack was premeditated after a months-long campaign of “predatory behavior” targeting Baird, whom he briefly dated.
Lamar-Condon failed to appear in Sydney’s Downing Center Local Court today when his lawyer John Walford agreed to an eight-week adjournment.
As Davies’ family listened to the hearing via audio link from Queensland, Crown prosecutor Brendan Donnelly said time was needed to finalize the charges against the former officer.
“We plan to file charges by then,” he told Magistrate Daniel Covington.
Outside court, Walford told reporters he would be served with a brief of evidence in the case later today, but it was too early for his client to make a statement.
He said Lamar-Condon is doing well in custody given the circumstances.
“He’s doing well, but it’s difficult for everyone. It’s hard for him too.”
It was also too early to say whether a mental health defense would be raised or whether the matter would go to court, he told reporters.
The couple’s bodies were found on February 27 in surf bags on the fence of a rural property near Goulburn, about 200km south-west of Sydney.
Lamarre-Condon was charged with two murders before the two bodies were found.
They were suspected to be dead after items belonging to the men were found in a bin in the southern Sydney suburb of Cronulla, leading police to Baird’s bloodied shared house.
Lamarre-Condon joined the NSW Police Force in 2019 and previously ran a celebrity blog, posing for photos with dozens of A-listers including Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Harry Styles.
He was fired from the police force in mid-March.
The case will return to court on August 13.
