In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Tones explained that she was in final dress rehearsals for her Melbourne show at Rod Laver Arena on November 7 when something felt very wrong.

Surrounded by “30 people, 30 dancers and 50 crew,” she reached a point in rehearsal when she had to hit a big note.

“When I hit the big note, I felt the blood running down my legs,” she wrote.

At first she thought the situation was manageable considering it was a rehearsal and not the actual performance.

“Except I was nine weeks pregnant,” she revealed.

Townes said she had no plans to go public with her pregnancy.

Her plan was to go back to her signature baggy jumpers and trousers and keep the news private.

“But here I am, almost 100 percent sure I’m having a miscarriage the night before the biggest show of my career,” she wrote.

She and her Victorian husband football player Jimmy Bedford rushed to hospital after walking out of rehearsal.

“The pain started coming and after I didn’t sleep that night I was told I was having a miscarriage,” she said.

On the morning of the show, around 11 o’clock, the doctors advised her to rest and cancel the performance.

Tons admitted she didn’t follow medical advice because she felt she couldn’t let her fans and team down.

“There was no way I was going to let everyone down,” she wrote.

She left the hospital and returned to Rod Laver Arena in time for a meet and greet with fans and the end of her sound check.

Tonight she performed her full concert as planned, singing 22 songs.

“Offstage I felt like a blob, but as soon as I stepped onstage I felt transported,” she said.

“It was unlike any show I’ve ever done. I was raised by my family, on and off stage, who knew nothing.

Townes revealed that she only told three people about what happened that night.

“I wanted this to be a night I’ll never forget,” she said.

“I have to thank my team and family for lifting me through what was truly one of my greatest triumphs and my saddest moments.”

The next morning, Townes returned to the hospital and underwent surgery to recover from the miscarriage.

She said that although it was “scary” to share her story, she wanted to thank everyone who supported her tonight.

Tones took a break after that performance and her next show is this Saturday on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Fans and friends reacted to the honest post, with one writing: ‘Most people wouldn’t go on that stage. The greatest sorrow and then the greatest exhilaration mingled in 24 hours. You are amazing tones. Much love to you and Jimmy H.”

“I was on this show and you guys were really amazing. To present yourself like this after what you feel and experience is just beyond,” said another.

“I am so sorry to both of you for your loss.”

Townes and her husband met in a pub just before COVID hit in 2020 when Bedford complimented Townes on his hat.

“I met him in a pub in Frankston and I don’t really remember him … he just came up to me and said ‘I like your hat’ and that was it,” she said.

When announcing her engagement, the pop star kept the caption simple.

She posted a ring emoji and tagged her fiance, who she had been dating for two years at this stage.

Meanwhile, Bedford captioned the same photo: “2021 has been a tough year for everyone but I ended mine with a yes, can’t wait for my best friend to be my wife.”
