Samsung has released an emergency update to fix a “critical security vulnerability” that users should install as soon as possible, according to the tech giant.

Samsung released information for May security patch for its flagship Galaxy smartphones and tablets, with some marked as ‘critical’.

“Along with Google’s patches, Samsung Mobile provides 25 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items to improve our customers’ confidence in the security of Samsung mobile devices,” Samsung said.

Samsung security index (SSI) found in “Security Software Version”, SMR May-2024 Issue 1 includes all fixes from Samsung and Google. Some of the SVE items may not be included in this package in case those items were already included in a previous support release.

A critical fix that Google included in its April security release is only now being provided by Samsung – the modem problem could potentially lead to corruption of the device’s memory during the exchange of information with another device, also known as a “handshake”.

Such memory vulnerabilities are warned as possible exploits.

Galaxy users will see updates available in the coming days and are advised to secure updates to their devices as soon as the version for their model becomes available.
